[Kaccāyanabyākaraṇaṃ, Sandhikappo, Sutta 6]

6. 8. Sesā byañjanā.

Ṭhapetvā aṭṭha sare sesā akkharā kakārādayo niggahitantā byañjanā nāma
honti.

Apart from the eight vowels, the remaining letters beginning with ‘k’ and
ending with the niggahita (‘ṃ’) are called ‘consonants’.

Taṃ yathā? ka kha ga gha ña; ca cha ja jha ña; ṭa ṭha ḍa ḍha ṇa; ta tha da
dha na; pa pha ba bha ma; ya ra la va sa ha ḷa aṃ. Iti byañjanā nāma.

Which are these? ka kha ga gha ṅa; ca cha ja jha ña; ṭa ṭha ḍa ḍha ṇa; ta
tha da dha na; pa pha ba bha ma; ya ra la va sa ha ḷa aṃ. These are called
‘consonants’ (byañjanā).

Tena kvattho? Sarā pakati byañjane.

What is the need of that (saying consonants)? Vowels because of consonants
remain natural (unchanged) (see §23).
