Dear Members,
I have uploaded an rtf file (127 kb) to the Kaccayana folder in the files
section of our home page on Yahoogroups. The file name is:
uKaccayana1-Eng.rtf. This is an edited version I prepared from Ven. U
Nandisena's text and translation of the Sandhikappa of the
Kaccāyanabyākaraṇa. The text portion is in romanized Pali unicode (set to
Times Ext Roman ttf font). You may be able to download it directly by
clicking on the following link:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/palistudy/files/Kaccayana/uKaccayana1-Eng.rtf
You can also acquire the original document prepared by Ven. U Nandisena in
2004 which uses the VZTimes font (non-unicode) by contacting me offlist. We
have the Venerable's permission to use the translation but he warns that the
translation is not finished and to use it with caution (caveat lector). It's
the translation I will be using in the weekly postings.
I would also like to take the opportunity to inform you about a new member
that has joined us very recently. Her name is Ma Vajira. She is an American
Buddhist nun, ordained for 18 years, who lives in Burma. She is the only
Westerner to have passed the Dhammācariya exam in Burma. She teaches Pali in
Burmese to other nuns at a meditation centre in Yangon where they have a 4
year program for the study of Kaccāyana's grammar. The first year is devoted
to the Sandhikappa. Ma Vajira came to hear of our group through Florent who
also lives in Burma. May we all benefit from her participation in the
discussions.
Best wishes and happy holidays, Jim
