Hi Bryan,
<< I see what you mean. It is certainly over my head and would take
me hours to figure out - even then I don't know if I have the
background to understand it. Perhaps some simpler ones would help to
get us inaugurated into the world of the grammarians? >>
I will provide snippets from the various commentaries as we progress
through Kaccaayana. I'll be on the lookout for those that are not so
way over our heads. I have made a list (see below) of all the
commentaries I have access to (3781 pages in total!). I just received
word this morning that there is an American Buddhist nun interested in
joining our list. She has been living in Burma for about the last 17
years and is very interested in Kaccaayana and probably an expert in
the subect.
There will be some disruptions in the discussions just ahead as we go
into the holiday season. Also, I'll be closing up my cabin for the
rest of the winter this coming Monday. I'm moving into warmer quarters
elsewhere. It's been damn cold up here -- minus 20C yesterday.
Here's my list of commentaries on Kaccaayana. The number of pages
given are for the main text only and does not include the front and
back matter.
Kaccāyanasuttaṃ:(Kacc-s) 38 pp. (Be)
Commentaries:
1. Kaccāyanavutti (Kacc-v) 277 pp. (Be=Buemese edn.)
2. Mukhamattadīpanī (Mmd) 476 pp. (Be)
2.1 Saṃpyaṅṭīkā (Mmd-pṭ) 258 pp. (Be)
2.2 Niruttisāramañjusāṭīkā (Mmd-nir) approx. 525 pp. (Be)
3. Padarūpasiddhi (Rūp) 422 pp. (Be)
3.1 Padarūpasiddhiṭīkā (Rūp-ṭ) 228 (Be)
4. Kaccāyanasuttaniddeso (Sutt-nidd) 373 pp. (Thai ed.)
5. Kaccāyanavaṇṇanā (Kacc-vaṇṇ) 572 pp. (Thai ed.)
6. Kaccāyanatthadīpanī (Kacc-dīp) 650 pp. (Thai ed.)
Best wishes,
Jim
