Dear Ong,
The books have been reprinted recently, but it is quite difficult to get
the Buddha Jayanthi Tipitaka books abroad unless you have a reliable
contact in Sri Lanka who is willing to help sending them to you. The
publisher is not helpful at all in this respect. Recently I helped
someone in Thailand to get the books and it cost him $ 400– to get only
the Sutta Pitaka, not including the Jatakas and some other books of the
Khuddaka Nikaya. To get a whole set, including the Jataka, Abhidhamma
and Vinaya, to, let's say, the USA would probably more than US 1000-
including mailing. I don't think many people can afford that.
The Buddha Jayanthi books are quite large in size and include the
Sinhala translation (in such high language that it is even unreadable
for most educated Sinhalese). To make it available as picture files
gives scholars the opportunity to have easy access to the official
edition of the Pali text.
It is already freely available online and useful for searching, but, as
I mentioned, not yet properly proofread. Whole paragraphs are apparently
missing, etc.
Best wishes,
Bh Nt
