I recently ordered most of the volumes of the Jataka commentaries reprinted around 1988-91. The quality of these is fine, at least for me. Are these the reprints you mean, or are you referring to later ones?

They have soft grey covers, and on the back cover it says someting like: PRINTED BY PRINTING HOUSE on 23.05.1990. There's no specific mention of BPS in the volumes themselves. But as I mentioned, they're clearly enough printed for my needs. I'm very happy with them.
