Metta is often the adjective form, such as metta,citta (in Bhayabherava Sutta (M 4), or as part of a compound, such as the title Kara.niiya Metta Sutta.

Mettaa is the usually noun or stem form (heading used in a dictionary).

Both mettaa and metta can be anglicized, though the latter is more common.

For exhaustive examples, search the VRI CD (see online) using "metta*" for metta words, and "mettā*" for mettā words.
