Hi to all;

I checked the messages in the group but I couldn't find any reference to slowing down audio and video for Pali study.

Apologies if this is an old topic.

Pariyatti offers their "Daily Words of the Buddha" by email and online. This is a short Pali text (in romanized Pali) with an English translation and an mp3 sound file speaking (not chanting) the Pali. Wonderful for Pali studies and a daily dhamma reminder!

Most people don't know this but there are standard, built-in features of Windows Media Player and QuickTime that allow you to slow down audio and video without distorting the voice or the accent.

Slowing down the audio or video can really help a person to hear the Pali clearly.

Another advantage (for dhamma talks and online Pali lessons) is that people who are not "native language" speakers can follow the dhamma talks much better if they can slow down the speaker in the audio or video.

For instance, an English language monastic from the USA listening to a dhamma talk recorded in Thai might find it handy to slow down the speaker. Or somebody who is French listening to a Pali lesson given in English and Pali (like Ven. Bodhi's course) might find it easier to follow the lesson.

If you are interested, I blogged about Pariyatti's "Daily Words of the Buddha" with a link to another blog post I wrote a while back called "How to slow down audio, video, mp3 and music".
