I would prefer yathaa: in relation to.

It's just how the English reflects the Pali. The meaning is related to the sound, i.e. literal meaning. This may have to do with the elementary syllable (sound) in the speech denoting certain fundamental objects or ideas. It may also be an ancient vedic viewpoint, or even a Sinhalese one (given that the commentary was originally in Old Sinhalese). In either case, it is certainly beyond my knowledge at this time.

So, we will get yathaaruta: in relation to the spoken words.

And, finally, yathaarutavasena: as in relation to the spoken words, as related to the spoken words, as per the spoken words.

Alternatively, slight variant, yathaarutavasena: on account of the relative spoken words.

Your suggestion also works, yathaarutavasena: as in accordance with the spoken words, as according to the spoken words, as per the spoken words. ;-)
