201. handa, is an hortative-emphatic particle, well then; now; come along

"Handa kuto nu tva.m, mahaaraaja, aagacchasi divaa divassa?" [S.i,97]

Well, sire, whence come you at this noon-time of the day?

"Handa eko gamissaami ara~n~na.m Buddhava.n.nita.m." [Theg.v.538]

"Come then! alone I'll get me hence and go
To lead the forest-life the Buddha praised." [Ps.B.p.252]

202. hala.m, enough; should not

"Kicchena me adhigata.m, hala.m daani pakaasitu.m." [D.ii,38]

"This that through many toils I've won -
Enough! why should I make it known." [D.B.ii,30]

203. have, surely; certainly

"Baalaa have nappasa.msanti daana.m." [DhA.iii,188]

YP: "Surely, the fools do not commend the act of giving alms."

204. haa, alas!

"Haa! Yogaa vippayogantaa!
Haa! Nicca.m sabbasa`nkhata.m!
Haa! Jiivita.m vinaasanta.m!
Icc'aasi paridevanaa." [Apa.540]

Alas! All meetings end in separation! All component things are impermanent! All life end in death! Such was the lamentation going on there.

205. hi, for; because; indeed

"Tassa hi dve pajaapatiyo, imassa a.t.tha; a.t.thahi parikkhipitvaa gahito ki.m karissati, bhante ti?" [DhA.i,73]

"He (Culla Kaa.la) has only two wives, but this one (Mahaa Kaa.la) has eight. What shall he do when he was surrounded and caught by the eight, Reverend Sir?"

206. hiyyo, hiiyo, yesterday

"Kin nu kho, mahaasama.na, hiiyo naagamaasi!" [M.V.p.28]

YP: "Who then, O great monk, did not come yesterday?!"

207. hura.m, there; in the other world; before

(a) "Devaa manussaa idha vaa hura.m vaa
Saggesu vaa sabbanivesanesu." [S.i,12]

The gods and men in this world, or yonder, or in heavens, or in every sphere of being.

(b) "Ye me pubbe viyaaka.msu
Hura.m Gotamasasanaa." [SN.v.1084]

Those who explained the things to me before the teachings of Gotama (came to exist).

208. huraahura.m, from one place to another

"So plavati huraahura.m
Phalam iccha.m va vanasmi vaanaro." [Dhp.v.334]

He jumps from life to life like a monkey seeking fruit in a forest.

209. he.t.thaa, down; below; underneath (in compounds it has the meaning "lower")

"Seyyathaa pi, Po.t.thapaada, puriso nisse.ni.m kareyya paasaadassa aaroha.naaya, tass'eva paasaadassa he.t.thaa." [D.i,198]

"Just, Po.t.thapaada, as if a man should construct a staircase, to mount up into the upper storey of a palace, at the foot of the very palace itself."
