The locative absolute and the accusative absolute seem much the same to me.
The accusative absolute came up in a discussion I had with Mahinda two years
ago (on this list) regarding "vandite" in a Ja I 88 and a D II 164 passage.
It was Lance Cousins who considered the "vandite" in the D II 164 passage to
be in an accusative absolute construction (which Mahinda disagreed with) and
this was the first time I'd heard about this type of construction in Pali.
Mahinda mentioned that it is described in O.H. de A. Wijesekaera's Syntax of
the Cases in the Pali Nikayas, (Post Graduate Inst. of Pali & Buddh.
Studies, Colombo 1993) p. 70 f.

Thanks for the additional links. I read the short Wikipedia article which
seems to suggest that there is room in Pali for such constructions as well.
