Bhikkhu Analayo has a paper out titled "*The *Bahudhātuka-sutta* and its
Parallels On Women’s Inabilities"* in the Journal of Buddhist Ethics, Vol
16, 2009

in the article he discusses the inability of women to become Buddhas, Kings
etc in Pali and Chinese and Tibetan preserved texts and their differences.
eg the Madhyama-agama version does not mention any of the inabilities of
women that are found in the Pali version.
