Once, the venerable Ananda approached the place where the Blessed One was;

upasa`nkamitvaa bhagavanta.m abhivaadetvaa ekamanta.m nisiidi.

and upon arrival, paid respect to the Blessed One and sat on one side.

Ekamanta.m nisinna.m kho aayasmanta.m aananda.m bhagavaa etadavoca -
on one side / seated / indeed / venerable / Ananda / Blessed One / this-said
The Blessed One said this to the venerable Ananda, (who was) indeed seated on one side -
"eka.msenaaha.m, aananda, akara.niiya.m vadaami kaayaduccarita.m vaciiduccarita.m manoduccarita"nti.
certainly-I / Ananda / should not be done / say / unwholesome action / unwholesome speech / unwholesome thought
"Ananda, I certainly say (that) unwholesome action, unwholesome speech (and) unwholesome thought should not be committed."
eka.msenaaha.m = eka.msena aha.m.
* eka.msena (adv) in all probability, for cetain.
kara.niiya (p.pot of karoti, passive) should be done.
vadati (v) says.

one even blames himself, the wise knows and despises, voices of criticism surface, (he) dies perplexed, (he) is reborn in a state of woe, a realm of misery, a place of suffering, a hell, after the dissolution of the body and after death.
