Dear Frank, Pat and friends,
Unicode (UTF-8) support is now widely available on computers. We have been discussing its merits for years on this list now. And, there is in fact little reason, if any, to not allow the use of Unicode on our list.
We have already seen Unicode text in some of our messages in the past few months. Still, I would like to thank Frank for raising the issue again, and Pat for the sample text.
So, yes, keep your messages in Unicode, or convert it to Velthuis, as another option. Most of the online Tipitaka sources are now in Unicode. However, to streamline our efforts, we should come up with a list containing websites using Unicode (100%), Unicode (but with certain characters non-Unicode), and not using Unicode. That would be very useful for anyone who like to grab a quote and post to the group, without having to bother to convert to Velthuis.
