123. pacchaa, afterwards; behind

"So pacchaa pabbajitvaana dutiyo hessati saavako." [Apa.32]

YP: "He will go forth afterwards and become a disciple for the second time."

In compounds:

* pacchaanipaatii, one who retires to rest later than another
* pacchaabaaha.m, with arms behind one's back
* pacchaabhatta.m, after the midday meal; in the afternoon
* pacchaasama.na, a monk who follows a senior monk

124. pa.tigacc'eva, beforehand

"Atha kho Yaso kulaputto pa.tigacc'eva pabujjhitvaa addasa saka.m parijana.m supanta.m." [V.M.15]

YP: "And then Yasa, son of a respectable family, woke up beforehand and saw (his) own servant sleeping."

125. pana, then; now; and now
atha ca pana, and yet
na kho pana, certainly not
vaa pana, or else

(a) "Tasmi.m kho pana samaye... Kosambiya.m tayo se.t.thino honti." [DhA.i,203]

YP: "At that time... three wealthy merchants were in Kosambii."

(b) "Atha ca pana petaana.m kaalakataana.m dakkhi.na.m anuppadassaamii ti." [D.iii,189]

And yet I will share the merits with those who are dead and gone beyond.

126. pabhuti, beginning from; henceforth
tato pabhuti, since then; from that time

"So puna-divasato pabhuti upasa`nkamantassa therassa upasama.m disvaa bhiiyoso-mattaaya pasiiditvaa thera.m niccakaala.m attano ghare bhatta-vissagga-kara.natthaaya yaaci." [Samp,i,38]

Having seen the peaceful deportment of the Elder who was coming there since the following day, he was very much pleased, and invited him to take him meals everyday in his house.

127. paatu, visible; open; manifest; (found only in compounds)

"Brahmuno h'eta.m pubbanimitta.m paatubhaavaaya yad'ida.m aaloko sa~njaayati, obhaaso paatubhavatii ti." [D.ii,209]

"This is the herald sign of manifestation of Brahma, to wit, when the light ariseth and the glory shineth."

128. paato, early in the morning
paato'va, right early

"Saaya.m saayamaasaaya, paato paataraasaaya gaamanigamaraajadhaaniyo osaranti." [D.iii,94]

For dinner in the evenings and for breakfast in the mornings, they enter the villages, towns and cities.

129. puthu, each; wide; separate; separately; spread out (Mostly seen in compounds.)

(a) "Eva.m piyo puthu-attaa paresa.m." [S.i,75]

Thus the separate souls are dear to their owners.

(b) "Tena kho pana samayena Sigaalako gahapatiputto kaalass'eva vu.t.thaaya... puthu disaa namassati." [D.iii,180]

At that time Sigaalaka, the householder's son, was used to getting up very early and to worship the separate quarters.

130,131. puna, puno, again

"Sabbe macche khaaditvaa pun'aagantvaa ekamaccham pi naaddasa." [Baka-Jaataka]

YP: "Having eaten all the fish and come again, not one fish again (he) saw."

132. punappuna, punappuna.m, again and again

"Punappuna.m daanapatii daditvaa
Punappuna.m saggam upenti .thaana.m." [S.i,174]

Having given (alms) again and again, the liberal donors are reborn again and again in the realm of happiness.
