Dear friends,
Continuation of the commentary to the Dhammacakka pavattana sutta.
Tatra kho Bhagavaa pa~ncavaggiye bhikkhuu aamantesi. There the
Blessed One addressed the monks of the group of five thus.
------
As to the word aamantesi, he adressed, the commentary states that the
Bodhisatta fulfilled the perfections from the time that he made his
aspiration at the feet of the Buddha Diipa`nkara. In his last life he
retired from worldly life and reached the grounds of the Bodhitree.
Sitting crosslegged, unconquered, he destroyed the power of Maara.
In the first watch of the night he recollected his former lives, in
the middle watch he purified the divine eye and in the last watch he
reached omniscience, thereby making the tenthousand worldsystems
resound. He spent seven weeks on the grounds near the Bodhitree, and
after the Great Brahma implored him to teach Dhamma, he surveyed the
world with the Buddha eye and with compassion for the world he went
to Varaanasi where he convinced the group of five monks and, wanting
to turn the Dhamma Wheel addressed them.
