Dear Yong Peng,
Thank you very much.

Y.P.: Sammodaniiya.m katha.m saara.niiya.m viitisaaretvaa ekamanta.m
nisiidi.
sammodaniiya (future passive participle of sammodati) rejoicing, friendly.
kathaa (f) conversation.
##saara.niiya = ???

N: courteous, polite.

"ko nu kho, bho gotama, hetu ko paccayo yena midhekacce sattaa kaayassa
bhedaa para.m mara.naa apaaya.m duggati.m vinipaata.m niraya.m
upapajjantii"ti?

"Now, Venerable Gotama, what indeed (is) the cause, what (is) ##the reason,
for which some beings in this life are reborn in a state of woe, a realm of
misery, a place of suffering, a hell, after the dissolution of the body and
after death?"

N: the reason why some beings.....

"Adhammacariyaavisamacariyaahetu kho, braahma.na, evamidhekacce sattaa
kaayassa bhedaa para.m mara.naa apaaya.m duggati.m vinipaata.m niraya.m
upapajjantii"ti.
"Due to a life of unrighteousness and immorality indeed, O brahmin,
therefore some beings in this life are reborn in a state of woe, a realm of
misery, a place of suffering, a hell, after the dissolution of the body and
after death."

---------

N: Just a remark about visamacariyaa: in the commentaries samalobha and
visamalobha are distinguished. Samalobha is the usual lobha arising after
seeing, hearing, etc, when we like something but do not harm others. This is
not akusala kamma producing an unhappy rebirth. Visama lobha is harmful
lobha, which can lead to an unhappy rebirth.

Nina.
