50. uttarasve, day after tomorrow (this word is not found in the P.T.S. Dictionary)
"Natthi saa iddhi vaa aanubhaavo vaa ajj'eva me dha~n~naani jaayantu, sve gabbhiini hontu, uttarasve paccantuu ti." [A.i,240] There is no such magic power or authority as to say: Let my crops spring up today, let them ear tomorrow, and let them ripen on the following day.
51. uttari, uttari.m, further; over; beyond
(a) "Atha ca pana bhava.m Aanando evam aaha: Atthi c'ettha uttari kara.niiyan ti." [D.i,206] Yet, the venerable Aananda says: "There is something further, still to be done."
(b) "Uttarin appa.tivijjhanto brahmalokuupago hoti." [A.V.342] Not attaining the higher stages he will be reborn in the Brahma World.
(c) uttaribha`nga, extra bits; a salad.
(d) uttarimanussa-dhamma, an extraordinary condition.
(e) uttarisaa.taka, an upper garment.
52. uda, udaahu, or (uda is seen only in verse)
(a) "Cara.m vaa yadi vaa ti.t.tha.m
Nisinno uda vaa saya.m,
Sammi~njeti pasaareti,
Esaa kaayassa i~njanaa." [SN.v.193]
If walking, standing, sitting or lying-down, a man draws in a limb or stretches it forth, it is but a movement of his body.
(b) "Kin naam'eta.m Satthaaraa kata.m? ~Natvaa nu kho kata.m, udaahu ajaanitvaa ti?" [DhA.i,73]
YP: "What indeed is this done by the Master? Having known and done indeed, or having not known?"
53. uddha.m, above; high up; hence; after; ago
(a) "So tattha phenuddehaka.m paccamaano sakim pi uddha.m gacchati." [A.i,141; M.iii,183] Being boiled there and throwing up foam, he once goes upwards (or comes to the surface with the scum).
(b) "Uddha.m catuhi maasehi kaalakiriyaa bhavissati." After four months will come my death. [Dhanapaala-Petavatthu]
In compounds:
* uddhammukha, facing upwards
* uddha.mvirecana, action of an emetic
* uddhambhaagiya, belonging to the upper part
54. upari, upon; above; on the top of; on; after (in cpds. upper; higher)
(a) "Yassa doso atthi tass'eva upari saapo patatu." [DhA.i,42] Let the curse fall upon him who is guilty.
(b) "He.t.thaa acci u.t.thahitvaa upari pa.tiha~n~nati." [M.iii,184] The flame arisen from (the floor) below touches the top (or the upper lid).
(c) "Ito vassa-satassa upari a.t.thaarasame vasse... saasane mahanta.m abbuda.m uppajjissati." [Samp.i,35] There will arise a great calamity in this religious order 118 years hence.
55. ekajjha.m, together; in the same place
"Taani sabbaani ekajjha.m aaropentehi sa`ngaha.m Jaataka.m naama sa`ngiita.m." [Jaataka-nidaana] Gathering all of them in one place they rehearsed the collection named Jaataka.
56. ekato, together; on one side
"A~n~natitthiyaa...nippabhaa hutvaa ekato sannipatitvaa mantayi.msu." [J.ii,415]
