Dear Palistas,

I would like to think all those people who have given me helpful
answers in my queries.

I faintly remember reading about a Maha Kassapa story decades back.
That once when the Buddha and Maha Kassapa were present together,
monks or someone actually mistook the latter (on account of his
austere appearance?) for the Buddha, and worships him first, so
unwittingly sidestepping the Buddha. The account goes on give this
event as Maha Kassapa's reason for leading a solitary forest life so
that no one would confuse him for the person he respects the most.

I cannot find this story anywhere in the Canon. It is probably
commentarial or even apocryphal. Does anyone know the source of orf
citation for this story?

Thanks again,

With metta and mudita,

Piya Tan
