Dear Ong Keng Kee;

"...82 pounds is still affordable for Thai or Malaysians..."

No, you are wrong.

Around 250 baht is affordable in Thailand and will get a recently
published book sold ***and read*** by large numbers of people which
means it will have an effect on the way that large numbers of people
think and act. I do know of one bookstore that just got four copies of
a 1955 book still in stock in from England. Those books have been
sitting in the warehouse for half a century gathering dust. All books
should be accessible through public libraries for anyone to borrow
anywhere in the world and....academic journal articles published in
the west should be available for free, the western professors who
write them who do not get paid really should think about making their
knowledge as widely available as possible to the outside world, that
is if they are serious about their avocation as teachers, not prestige
accumulation from academic publication.

'...one more thing to add, the books was published 1928-66,it is not
even 90 years. So Jon please tell me what is copyright means for a
buddhist like you? You are a guy who has profound knowledge about
pali but no idea what is the basic precept?"

I have taught thousands of students in Thailand and if those students
have committed hundreds of copyright violations in the service of
knowledge good on them. They are good Buddhists and may they prosper
and learn despite people like you. You are wrong, dear Ong Keng Kee.
Thailand is not your country so you are not fit to speak of it.

With metta,
Jon Fernquest
