thanks for your explanation. I agree with the meaning of vija.teti as
you explained. I got vija.taye = vija.teyya from the commentary. I
wonder if -aye is a rare form of conjugation for the Optative, or a
corruption for metrical purposes.

I actually chose 'organise' so that it rhythms with the rest of the
verse. Thanks for the example from Visuddhimagga, I realise I made a
mistake with ca in the second line.

After the corrections, the verse would now be:

"Firm in morality, a man, wise,
cultivating wisdom, and (developing) the mind;
the ardent and prudent monk,
he would this tangle untwine."

N: Literally: he would disentangle this tangle. Vija.teti: unravel,
disentangle.

All this is similar to the beginning of the Visuddhimagga, I, 1. :

When a wise man, established well in Virtue,
Develops Consciousness and Understanding,
Then as a bhikkhu ardent and sagacious
He succeeds in disentangling this tangle (S I, 13)
