jiivitaa na voropessatha, imasmi.m yeva aasane viraja.m viitamala.m

And whoever indulges in drinking alcoholic beverages
He digs out his own roots in this world itself

7.Ara~n~ne ko.t.thake bandhitvaa mige rundhitvaa maaretvaa ma.msa.m
vikki.nitvaa jiivantaa luddakaa anaagate sukha.m na vindanti.
[in] forest / [in] enclosure / having captured / deer / having trapped
/ having killed / meat / having sold / living on / hunters / [in]
future / happiness / no / enjoy
Having captured and trapped deer in an enclosure in a forest, having
killed them and sold their meat, hunters living on it won't enjoy
happiness in the future.

8.Go.no bandhanaa mu~ncitvaa udaka.m paatukaamo gha.tassa samiipa.m
gantvaa ta.m paadena bhindi.
ox / [from] bound / having released / here / water / wishing to drink
/ [of] water-pot / close / having gone / it / [with] foot / broke
Wishing to drink water from the water-pot, the ox released itself from
its bound, went close to it and broke it with its foot.

She asked "Venerable, may we pour this water on the boy's head?". He
replied "Pour it!". They did as he said. The deity released him
instantly and stood at the entrance of the cave.

'eva bhu~njati ca nipajjati ca nisiidati ca; devo pana diipaalokena

eats or sleeps or sits by the light of gems; but the king will sit
down by the light of a lamp.
