Sounds like one of the best translation strategies might be to keep
the original terms used intact with italics or at least put the Pali
in parentheses after the gloss in the translation.

Just finished reading "Chandragupta Maurya and his times" by Radha
Kumud Mookerji (1943), a classic history of the grandfather of King
Asoka, that uses the Mahavamsa Tika for a lot of its materials, but
also Puranas. Mookerji provides the Sanskrit terms in parentheses
which is really useful to the serious student.
