Dear all,
For many years I've been using some handy Word macros to convert
various Pali/Sanskrit fonts to and from Velthuis. I originally
obtained a couple of these for Unicode from list member Eric Van Horn,
and then modified and adjusted them for my own needs and for
converting other non-unicode fonts.
I have just now posted these all to our File section in one zip file.
There are eight Microsoft Word macros included in the main file,
comprising to/from pairs for each of four font encodings: Unicode,
DPalatino, VRI Roman Pali and Normyn.
e.g., PaliUnicodeFromVelthuis will convert from Velthuis codes into
Pali/Sanskrit Unicode characters. PaliUnicodeToVelthuis will convert
from the Pali/Sanskrit Unicode characters back into Velthuis/ASCII
text. Similarly for each of the other three font encodings.
Thus note that, using these macros in combination, one can convert
from any of these four fonts to any of the others, by means of first
converting from font A into Velthuis, and then converting from
Velthuis into font B.
The instructions for installing these macros into Word (very simple)
and running them (even simpler) are included in the zip file.
Note that these files all use a special Velthuis coding, i.e. ,n
instead of "n, for the n-superdot character (similarly ,s instead of
"s for Sanskrit s-acute), since I found that too often there are
double-quotes included in the text adjacent to an n or an s that are
not meant as diacritics. So in the file named "Pali Font Conv Q
Macros.doc" there are 8 alternative versions of these macros that use
the standard.
These are all a lot easier to use than the Pali Trans software since
no cutting and pasting from one file to another is needed. The macros
run right within the document you are working on.
I hope some of you may find these useful.
