Thanks gives some direction in why the DAT says what it said:

Niddasa is taken (playfully I think) taken as "ni + dasa" = "not 10" as it
also
mentions nibbiiso etc, meaning that it is not the number of years that makes
a senior monk *niddasa,* but his realization.
