Dear Nina,

In Sanskrit I have come across *a`svaaroha.na* for horse-riding and *
gajaaroha.na* for elephant-riding
gaja + aaroha.na
(aaroha.na literally means climbing, though)
(I'm not sure what the verb wud be)

AND

a`svaarohii / gajaarohii for horse / elephant rider (masculine)
a`svaarohinii / gajaarohinii for horse / elephant rider (feminine)

wonder if that gives some clue as to what it might be in Pali ...
