Mahinda,

I have a fascination with how names originate (to the embarrassment of some
who are not aware of my nerdy interest). For example, I was ecstatic when
one of my Sutta class students at the National University of Singapore was
a Bharadvaja (from India of course). Maybe one day I might meet a real life
Vasistha (Vaase.t.tha).

Since I first saw your surname "Palihawadana" I have wondered if it is
Pali in some way, or purely Sinhalese.

Any chance you could explain it to us.

Piya Tan
