The suffix ka is a diminutive suffix like in vodka. It is used pejoratively:
wretched vasala, wretched mundaka.

The Ven. Nyanaponika gives a slightly different
explanation in a foot-note to the first stanza of his
German translation of the Vasala Sutta,
<
http://www.palikanon.com/khuddaka/sn/sn_i07_142.html>:
I'm not good at translating from German to English -
neither is my mother-tongue - but perhaps some German
list member could do it?
It seems to me to mean, though, that by calling the
Buddha "vasalaka" he doesn't say he is a "vasala", but
rather a caste traitor; the suffix -ka seems to be
quite important.
The relevant phrase in the Pali text is (according to
VRI):
"Disvaana bhagavanta"m etadavoca tatreva [atreva
(syaa. ka.)], mu.n.daka; tatreva, sama.naka;
tatreva, vasalaka ti.t.thaahiiti."
