Hi Gerard,
> I wonder if it is necessary to do also the exercise English-Pali. My aim is to be able to translate for my self passages of the Nikaya's, for instance. I remember from my studies Latin and Greek that only in the beginning exercises English-Latin etc. were given, but very soon they were dropped. So, could anyone give me an advise?
Personally I think it's a good idea, to help you consolidate your knowledge. But really it's up to you. If you've had earlier experience with classical languages then you can probably rely on your own sense of how you best learn. You seem clearly aware of your goals, so you don't need to slavishly follow Warder. I skipped at least half of his material the first time through, and have been going back and rediscovering tidbits ever since. Warder's book is not just good, it is a truly great piece of work IMO. It literally contains a wealth of information, more probably than most students can or even wish to take in their first few years with the language.
