Dear Pete,
When I was growing up in Dallas, many years ago, there would have been little chance of finding someone interested in Pali, or Buddhism in any form. Like you, I've tried out Tibetan and other traditions, but have decided to stick with Theravada. If you want, we can have discussion as to why. By all means make use of the internet Pali sources, which you can link to through Access to Insight, Buddhanet, Tipitika.net and others. I work as a librarian, so let me know if you need help finding sources.
Best Wishes,
Richard Meier

Hello,
I am Pete Tomlinson, and I have been interested in Buddhism and Pali for some time. I suppose my main interest is in reading the Sutttas in the Pali well enough to understand what is actually said there. I say this knowing that many many excellent translations already exist. Nonetheless I would like to be able to read Pali fluently and perhaps learn Burmese script, which has the benefit of allowing one to also read Sinhalese.
I live in Dallas TX and have quite a few friends who practice Vajrayana Tibetan Buddhism. They are all lovely people and I care for them deeply and also respect the Rinpoches deeply. Having said all that I am and remain Theravadan.
What I hope to find, aside from friends and associates who have interests in the Theravadan teachings and Way of dhamma, are used and cheaper editions of the Pali tests so Ican save a little money in acquiring the Tipitaka. I am beginning at the beginning and have not even got A K Warder's grammar, (or anyone Else's yet).
Anyone having good suggestions, can e mail me at their leisure, but overall hello and glad to be aboard!
Pete Tomlinson
