Dear Dr. Pind, Yong Peng, and friends
How about the following passage from S 12:15
Dukkhameva uppajjamaana.m uppajjati
dukkha.m nirujjhamaana.m nirujjhatii'ti
Does the participle reflect the same usage?
Ven. Bodhi's translation for it is
'What arises is only suffering arising, what ceases is
only suffering ceasing.'
with much metta

In this case the participle uppajamaano denotes the
reason for the
action denoted by the finite verb uppajjati.
Consequently we might
translate: The is one person, monks, who by arising
i.e, because he
arises, arises for the benefit of many people etc.
