having to refer to the various Pali editions constantly, and also from various comments by Pali specialists, I don't think we can take any edition as 100% accurate. After all an oral tradition has become a written tradition, and it is difficult to know what the Urtext really is.

But what we have in various editions are very valuable indeed. From a careful comparative study of all such texts we can triangulate the best (or a best) reading. This has to be guided by:

(1) sutta context,
(2) the living transmission of the meditation (esp forest) tradition.

This last past is the domain only of those who actually practise Buddhism and keep up some level of mental cultivation.

This is what distinguishes a truly "intuitive" translation from a purely academic one.
