Dear Dr. Pind

Thanks a lot, your comment is very helpful.
I look for the example you gave, and find CSCD reads 'cira.madi.t.thaa' not 'ciradi.t.thaa'
Does it mean anything important?

Dear Tzung-Kuen,

There is no technical term for the type of construction where a ta-participle functioning syntactically as a non-finite verb forms a compound with an adverbial complement like cira, or with any similar complement. There is at least one interesting parallel in the canon, cf., e.g., ciradi.t.thaa kho me maataapitaro: it is long since I saw my parents, Vin I 344.

Best wishes,
Ole Pind

Dear Dr. Pind

Many thanks for your explanation. I found similar exposition in Warder's book, page 57.
What really confuesed me is when ' cira ' is added to ' suttaa ' and these two words become one word, how to analyze it according to grammar. It's a ta-participle as a verb, not a compound, but still could be seprated into two words. Do ancient or modern grammarians have a technical term for this kind of participle? Other examples are ' cira-pabbajita ', ' acira-parinibbuta '.

Ole Holten Pind <oleholtenpind@...> ?秋飾?赯Z牧???lt;BR> Hello,

This is one among numerous examples of the use of the genitive to denote the agent in construction with a ta-participle. That is, the enclitic pronoun no has to be construed with sutaa qualifying dhammii kathaa as the agent of the sentence, roughly corresponding to the use of the instrumental with ta-participles. The interesting thing about this particular constructio is that it is far more common in my experience that the similar use of th instrumental.
Hope this helps.

Best wishes,
Ole Pind

Emne: [Pali] How to analyze 'Cirssuta'? in terms of Pali Grammar

Dear Rett, Nina, and others

Would anyone of you kindly analyze grammatically ??秋飾?赯f????rassutaa??in the following Pali sentence? I am inclined to take it as a past participle, though prefixed with ??秋飾?赯f????ra?? but still functioning as a verb. If I am right, the question will be how to call this kind of past participle in Pali grammar. Is there a technical term for it? Any comment is very much appreciated.
