Thanks a lot for the clarification regarding the compound
juutapamaada.t.thana. The misunderstanding of the commentarial
explanation shows the importance of being
familiar with commentarial Pali grammar and its idioms. I was
already wondering about the function of tam after ca. I had seen it
before in explanations of compounds and wrongly assumed that it merely
had an emphatic function. Now I know that it rather is an idiomatic way
of indicating a kammadhaaraya rather than a dvanda. I am not so familiar
yet with Pali grammatical literature with its special terminologies and
idioms often borrowed from Sanskrit. In Sri Lanka young monks will study
or learn by heart the Kaccayana and other Pali grammatical workst and
are less likely to make these kind of misinterpretations of the
commentaries than we do.
