My recollection is that the 200+ rules of the vinaya for the theravadin and
Mahayana monks are very close. Do Tibetan Monks ordain with the Mahayana
vinaya? I suddenly realized I'm not clear at all if the yellow/red robe
designates celibate monks or whether lamas (who can marry) also have the
option to shave-head and have the same appearance.

Can someone clarify this for me? What brought this on was the recent cover
of tricycle magazine, which shows several shave-headed men wearing
red/yellow monkish robes. In the picture, they're riding on a roller
coaster, laughing with their arms raised and having a grand time. Skillful
means, slightly different vinaya, or...?
