Ironically, however, William the Conqueror (or William
the Bastard, as Snorri called him) introduced the
*French* language in England, and weakened the
influence there of his own Viking relatives.
Ironically, too, the French, while speaking a Romance
language, name their country after the Franks, who
spoke a Teutonic one.
Whether history heals or not, it may sometimes
entertain.
