Dear Hugo,
Just a little note. It is a commonly perpetuated misunderstanding that
bhikkhus have 227 training rules in the case of bhikkhus and 311
training rules in the case of bhikkhunis, however actually there are 220
for bhikkhus and 304 for bhikkhunis.
The reason is that the last section of the Patimokkha contains seven
legal procedures, adhikaranasamathadhamma, to settle legal issues and
they are not training rules. This section can be seen as an appendix to
the Patimokkha and the Suttavibhanga.
Buddhaghosa thera did not include the seven adhikaranasamathadhamma// in
the Mahàvibhanga (= Bhikkhu-vibhanga): ``Thus the Great Analysis is two
hundred and twenty training training rules ...'' : ``/Evaü vãsàdhikàni
dve sikkhàpadasatàni mahàvibhaïgo ti .../''; D-a I 13.
Yours,
Bh. Nyanatusita
I thought it was the reverse, i.e. Bhikkhunis had more rules.

Bhikkhuni Patimokkha, the basic code of discipline for bhikkhunis,
contains 311 rules.

monks follow 227 precepts and bhikkhunis follow 311 precepts.
