Passage 2: Paaniiyadinnassa Vatthu, The Story of the Giver of Water

Ra~n~naa kasmaa bha.ne corakamma makaasiiti pucchito naaha.m deva
coro, aagantukomhiiti vutte
from king / why / I say / thief-work / do not do / asked / not-I /
lord / thief / visitor-but / said
Asked by the king, "Why? I say, do not steal!", (he) said, "Lord, I
am not a thief but a visitor."

raajaa core pariyesitvaa alabhanto ayameva coro, ima.m maarethaati
aa.naapesi.
king / on thief / having searched / not obtaining / this-so / thief /
him / execute / ordered
The king, searching the thief and not recovering (the treasures),
ordered, "This (is) the thief so. Execute him."

Raajapurisehi ta.m gaa.lha.m bandhitvaa aaghaatana.m niite saa itthii
ta.m tathaa niiyamaana.m disvaa sa~njaanitvaa kampamaanahadayaa
muhuttena ra~n~no santika.m gantvaa vanditvaa deva eso na coro
aagantuko mu~ncatheta.m devaati aaha.

Ahosi.m duggato pubbe, baaraa.nasiipuruttame;

daana.m denti naraa tattha, nimantetvaana bhikkhavo.

There, men invite monks and give alms.
