Actually, I don't think that this is technically correct. The Buddha, for
example, used samatha to the point of jhaana to stave off physical pain
towards the end of his life, and then again in the few moments before his
death. It seems like these states of absorption have their uses even
post-enlightenment, and are not automatic.
