I could add to what others mentioned: The Atthasaalinii, Book I, Part IV,
kaamaavacara kusala cittas, Ch VIII, 157. I have it in English. It gives a
very good explanation about the ten bases of meritorious deeds.
You asked about bhaavana; apart from Samatha and Vipassanaa: listening to
the dhamma, explaining it. Also straightening of views that goes together
with all ten. Someone may not have known what kusala is, but he comes to
understand its value. He changes his view about kusala and akusala.
