Dear Yong Peng,

In many of your solutions for Ex. 21, I have a problem with your
classification of avyayiibhaava compounds. For example, in the set
below, you have classified all the following as A compounds:
> paraabhavo = paraa-bhavo [A]
> duranubodha.m = du-r-anubodha [A]
> abhidhamma.m = abhi-dhamma [A]
> upanagara.m = upa-nagara [A]
> pa.tiraajaa = pa.ti-raajaa [A]
> niraahaara = ni-r-aahaara [A]

Warder on pp.255-6 says that Avyayiibhaava cpds are used as adverbs
and are always indeclinable. (In fact avyayiibhaava means
"indeclinable-nature".)

I think all the above, which are declinable and function as nouns or
adjectives, should be classified as Kammadharaaya. Could Narada have
made a mistake in his chapter where he does indeed include
"upanagara.m" as one of his examples for an A compound? Perhaps,
scholars disagree on this classifiacation. Any comments from the more
learned members of the group?

Note, in # 11 below, yathaabala.m (= yathaa-bala [A]) clearly does
function as an indeclinable adverb, so is correctly classified A.

With metta,
John
