You are incorrigible. In the above, you seem to be indulging yet again in
the things you deplore. Your language and tone here again shows a lack of
respect for the views of others. Don't you realize that "paravaadii" is a
relative term ? Perhaps it would lessen the unpleasant atmosphere here if
everybody stopped using this judgmental and intentionally hurtful
expression. From my perspective, I could say that you are a paravaadii and
heterodox (and a Hinayanist) who distorts the words of the Buddha to suit
your views, but do I go ranting on about that ? I have no desire to
persuade you or others to adopt my understanding of the Buddha-dharma -- it
really matters little to me what you choose to believe, no matter how
bizarre it might seem to me. People should be allowed to make up their own
minds with the facts and evidence made available to them.

And who are these so-called progressives ? I haven't noticed any social
agendas being propagated here, so perhaps you are confusing the Pali group
with Buddha-L. And why do you disparage "left social agendas",
characterizing them as "pansy" ? Could we characterize your agenda as a
reactionary right-wing neo-fascist ? Would that be helpful and endearing to
you ? You also seem to be unaware that in many English-speaking countries,
"pansy" is a term of insult for a gay person -- is that your intention ?

I strongly urge you to think a little more carefully about your choice of
words -- try putting yourself in the shoes of your audience, many of whom
mat not share your views.

Best wishes,
Stephen Hodge
