Dear Frank, Robert and friends,
there isn't any problem if this is a private dialogue among very very
close friends. However, in a public discussion where most people do not
know each other other than sharing a common interest in Pali, things do
get a bit complicated. As such, it is important we practice caution as
to what can be said about personal jhanic or paranormal experiences.
I am not agreeing or disagreeing the views put forward by anyone. I
have read about rebirth and antaraabhava before, but I do not have the
theoretical or jhanic evidence to support or reject the claims.
However, while I remain open-minded about this, I have to remind
everyone that there are hidden dangers to rely on jhanic experiences,
especially those put forward by people who you do not know very well,
to understand the Buddha's teachings.
Another thing I like to say is that when a person is troubled by such
experiences during meditation, it is important to consult an
experienced meditator for advice.
metta,
Yong Peng.
