Dear Group,

I am a new member. Allow me to introduce myself.

I am a long time meditation practitioner. Until recently all of my contact with Buddhism had been through the Japanese Soto and Rinzai lines of Zen Buddhism. It is only within the last year that I became aware that the Pali texts are the most original texts of Buddhism.

After I finished a PhD in engineering science in 2002 I accepted a research faculty appointment at the University of Rochester. However I had promised I myself that I would take time off after my graduate studies. So in September 2004 I began a sabbatical whose objectives included learning to read Pali and to deepen my meditation practice to encompass the fine material sphere Jhana's.

I have read and worked through most of Warder and an now focusing on reading sutras from the Majjhima Nikaya and Sutta Nipata using the translations by Bhikkhu Bodhi (MN) to learn.

I am interested in networking with other Pali students.

Lawrence Taylor
