Robert is referring to the early usage of Vajjiputtaka, you
are referring to the later one. Both are found in Pali
texts.
In the Vinaya's account of the Council of Vesaalii (Vin. ii.
294-308) the Vajjiputtakas are the monks who propose the ten
(Vinaya) theses, starting with the one concerned with a horn
of salt.
In the Kathaavatthu Atthakathaa's account of the Council of
Paatalii the Vajjiputtakas (along with the Sammitiyas) are
the monks who hold that the puggala exists in the ultimate
sense.
