hi, can i just ask what is the difference, regarding ordination as a bhikkhu, between the thai and say sri lankan theravada traditions, in that, the thai forest tradition seems less academically involved (please excuse me here but these are gross generalisations but im referring to academic as in university depts and doing phd's when ordained etc), whilst bhihhkus coming out of sri lankan traditions seem to be more so, to name but a few, analayo (direct path to realization) and mahinda deegalle (uk academic who i last noticed was in bath university)?
are their differences in the vinaya, do they both hold to the same version of vinaya etc?
please excuse my naivety for what might be a very obvious answer!
