The project you do is interesting for all of us. CD Rom helps for cross
references, but this does not work on iMac. Jim helped me once and it was
most useful.Translations will be different dependent on the context.
I went back more in the Meghiya text and here are also the more coarse
forms: Meghiya sat down on a stone slab where he had for over five hundred
births been seated as a king and watched dance girls. He had a revival of
those experiences and had thoughts connected with sense desire. <At that
very same moment, he seemed to see two robbers who had been seized together
with the goods being fetched and placed before him. Thought connected with
ill will arose (for him) by way of ordering execution for one of these,
thought connected with cruelty by way of ordering bondage for the other-
thus it was that he became encircled, surrounded by unskilled thoughts as
might be a tree by a network of creepers or a hive by honey-bees. >
A footnote to bondage: flogging and bondage. Here it becomes clearer that
cruelty is involved.
But the difference with ill will is not so clear. Cross references may help.
