Dear friends,

Sara.na.m is translated in Thai in two ways:

1) tii puung - object of refuge
2) tii ruluk - object of recollection

I'm sure the latter comes from the texts like the Illustrator which
seem to imply "recollection" in taking refuge. But, see Dhp 189, 192
"n'eta.m kho sara.na.m khema.m," (this indeed is not a safe sara.na.m)
referring to mountains and forests. So, refuge is the obvious direct
translation.

Best wishes,

Yuttadhammo
