Working with Sanskrit / Tibetan / Chinese materials, I find that "malice" or
"vindictiveness" seems to fit vyaapaada best. Also consider the way the verb
vyaapajjati is used. Again, vihi.msa seems to correspond to "harm". This
suggests that vyaapaada is a preceding condition for vihi.msa to occur.

I have a sense of deja vu here, but perhaps the problem lies in translating
sa~n~naa as "perception" -- all the materials I work with suggest that the
function of sa~n~naa is closer to what we would call "conception" in
English. Perception is what vij~naana does.
