I've done a couple of lessons with a Chinese bhiksuni who's staying
here at the moment; by pure coincidence we chose the same sutta,
SA1, to start with. She said that the lessons would be very useful,
not merely for english speakers, but also for Chinese speakers such
as herself who are not familiar with BTC.

Ven Analayo has done this for the Majjhima, in consultation with Rod
Bucknell. The results will be embodied in sutta-central. The Digha
is not such a problem, as the suttas are easy to identify. But the
Samyutta and anguttara...! I've done a little bit, and would be
surprised if the error in Akanuma is less than 10%. The later
Chinese concordances are better, but still not perfect.

Can you let me know any findings like this? I will continue to do a
little bit on the samyutta. We won't be able to do a really thorough
job before sutta-central is running, but will gradually update and
improve. If you (or anyone else) can send me such info, i'll check
it and forward to Rod (who is the master of cognacity for sutta-
central), and we'll keep our concordance tables shiny and new.

Incidentally, i suppose it'd be too forward of me to ask if i could
have a peek at your translation of the YBS?

One thing i forgot to say in commenting on SA1. The Pali is more
precise and sophisticated in its vocabulary, grammar, and syntax;
this does affect the subtlety of meaning. But the Chinese, while
being a coarser grain without the detailed resolution of the Pali,
has a more complete overall form. So looking at both versions you
get a richer text than either alone.
