Dear all,

There has been some discussion on and off recently about the benefits of
some acquaintance with Chinese translations of Buddist texts. I mentioned
that I did not think that any of the handbooks available for Classical
Chinese would be very helpful as they are orientated towards an earlier form
of Chinese, so I have put together a short introductory lesson and uploaded
it to the Files section of this group.

There are two compressed files -- one for the lesson itself and one for the
essential Chinese font which needs to be installed first. A PC user should
have no problems with this material if their computer is reasonably
up-to-date but I suspect Mac users will have difficulties and I can offer no
advice (except get yourself a Proper Computer).

As this lesson is just experimental, I would be pleased to receive any
feedback. If there is sufficient interest, I would be happy to continue
producing a series of lessons -- providing our group-owner has no
objections.

Best wishes,
Stephen Hodge
